Measuring programming progress by lines of code is like measuring aircraft building progress by weight.

Have you ever wanted to have a holiday-related article that repeats each year?
Or a reminder-article about a recurring deadline?
Or post a birthday or anniversary greeting that reappears automatically each year?

Our new Joomla 1.5 Recurring Content files let you publish articles that will automatically repeat annually.  Joomla will include your repeating articles in its section blogs, category blogs, and front page components.

To enter an item that will repeat automatically every year, assign a Start Publishing date and a Finish Publishing date in the year 2030.  For example: If you want your Article to be visible every year from April 26th to May 10th, give it a Start Publishing date of 2030-04-26 and a Finish Publishing date of 2030-05-10.

If you want to span a year-end, let the Finish Publishing date spill over to 2031.  For example: If you want your Article to be visible every year from December 28th to January 14th, give it a Start Publishing date of 2030-12-28 and a Finish Publishing date of 2031-01-14.

You can also include times in the Start and Finish Publishing dates, and they will work as you'd expect.

We used a year in the far future (2030) to indicate recurring content, rather than a year in the far past, so that automatic archiving bots will not remove your repeating articles.

To install our Recurring Contents hack, you replace the following files in /components/com_content/models/:

article.php
category.php
frontpage.php
section.php

You can download a zipped file of the Recurring Content files here

These are modified versions of the Joomla 1.5.9 files.  (The hacks are well commented, in case you need to do the same thing to other, or future, Joomla core files.

They should be regarded as beta versions, although they appear to be working fine on a client's site that needed this feature.  Please share your experiences with these files:
